Bob Patrick 1936 - 2025

Bob Patrick passed away peacefully on September 26, 2025, with his wife by his side.  Bob was an avid flyer whose career as a pilot spanned from his teenage years to nearly 30 years with United Airlines.  Bob retired to Weiser, Idaho, with his beloved wife, Mary Sue Roach.  During his years in Weiser, Bob was an avid supporter of Friends of Weiser River Trail, serving as director from 2014 through 2020.  During his tenure on the board, Bob served as our Weiser liaison, working in partnership with our neighbors and the City of Weiser.

Barb McGann 1953 - 2025

Barb McGann passed away on April 18, 2025.  Barb was an integral part of the trail for over 20 years, serving as director since 2005, serving in various roles as treasurer, president and champion, but most of all she was our friend, and she will be greatly missed.  A memorial bench was purchased by the endurance community and will be placed in the spring of 2026 at Thousand Springs, near Barb's mother's bench.  Barb's legacy was creating the Trestle sponsorship program and donations can be made in her memory here.

Lane Williams 1934 - 2022

On February 17, 2022, Friends of Weiser River Trail lost one of our founding members, when Lane Williams of Midvale passed away. Lane was a founding member of FWRT and maintained a vital and integral role until his passing. Lane was passionate about the trail and even after he retired from the Board of Directors in 2014, he remained involved.  Lane's legacy lives on, he has a memorial bench in Midvale and ensured trail development by the gift of a 7 acre parcel in Midvale between the trail and the river.

Dot Wiggins 1930 - 2020

Born in Montana, Dot started riding horses before she was born.  She believes she may have been conceived on Bear Tooth Pass, Montana, as her mother and father rode from Red Lodge to Cook City.  Dot eventually landed in Midvale, Idaho, where she punched cows, bred Quarter Horses and worked at Sturgill Peak fire lookout on Hitt Mountain for several summers.   Dot was a fierce advocate for trails.  Over the years she worked with the Forest Service and BLM as well as private  land owners to preserve equestrian trails.   In 2016, AERC recognized Dot by presenting her wth the Ann Parr Trails Preservation Award.  Dot was one of the early directors of the Friends of Weiser River Rail Trail, serving from 1997 through 2017.

Terry Bonner 1939 - 2019

Terry Bonner passed away in Meridian, Idaho, on October 31, 2019.  Born in Huntsville, Arkansas, Terry was a minister for several churches, eventually settling in Midvale, Idaho.  Terry was passionate about horses and in 2003 became a director for Friends of Weiser River Trail, serving until 2010.  Terry helped organize the first Wagon Train event and continued to be an avid Trail supporter until he passed away.  In addition, Terry served as president.

Shirley Atteberry 1935 - 2017

Shirley Atteberry passed away in October 2017, at the age of 82.  Shirley was by far the most ardent and passionate supporter of the Weiser River Trail.  Shirley was there "in the beginning," even before the corridor was deeded to FWRT, and for the remainder of her life, spent countless hours making the Trail a reality.  Without Shirley's dedication and focus, the Trail might not exist as it does today, connecting two counties and four communities.  The Trail truly is Shirley's legacy.  Shirley served on the board of directors from 1996 until she passed away in 2017.  Shirley served as president for many years, and her knowledge of surveying was invaluable as FWRT navigated the complexities of rail banking, defending their right to ownership of the corridor.  To learn more about Shirley's legacy, click HERE.
