THE RULES AND TRAIL ETIQUETTE

What you Need to know before you go

  • No motorized vehicles are allowed (except for emergency and service vehicles).
  • Please do not block gated and nongated entrances.
  • OpenfFires are not allowed except in designated camping areas. (The only such areas along the trail are at the two campgrounds: Evergreen and the Wye)
  • The discharge of firearms on or across the trail is prohibited. (Hunters may, however, use the trail to access public lands. The map on Page 9 shows the public lands in green (Forest Service), blue (Idaho), and yellow (BLM). To be sure which lands are public, Forest Service or BLM maps are needed.
  • Anglers may use the trail to reach the river wherever the trail corridor adjoins the high water mark.
  • Carry safe water. If you run out, water from side creeks and the river must be filtered.
  • Bicyclists and hikers yield to horses. Say something so the horses will know you’re not a predator and then move to the side of the trail for your safety and theirs.  Do not crouch down to make yourself smaller.  Horses are used to seeing standing people.
  • Pets are welcome but keep them under your control – carry a leash in case you need it. Farm dogs often consider the trail as part of their domain. Please make every effort to pass by them peacefully.
  • Use the chemical toilets where provided. Vault toilets are at the 13th Street and Presley Trailheads and the campgrounds (Weiser, Midvale, Wye and Cambridge!)
  •  Watch for rattlesnakes and poison ivy.
  • To protect against West Nile Virus, wear mosquito repellant and possibly a mosquito headnet.
  • Pack It In – Pack It Out! (Please leave trail cleaner than you found it.)
  • Most Important! Please respect private property adjacent to the trail and DO NOT TRESPASS.
Livestock may be on the trail or around it. If you find a gate open, LEAVE IT OPEN. If you find a gate closed, LEAVE IT CLOSED. Do not feed or tease livestock. Stock water is by river access, but do not tres- pass across private land to get to the river. If a fence is between the trail and river, that means it borders private land. Check the map before your ride as the trail leaves the river for several miles in some sections. Please plan ahead for your horse’s welfare.

If you notice a problem along the trail, or need to know current trail conditions please e-mail weiserrivertrail@gmail.com or check our
    Facebook page

ATTENTION OUTFITTERS, BUSINESSES AND NONPROFITS

Examples: Any type of "fun" event such as a  "poker ride," an organized group walking or biking event, or renting horses or bicycles and escorting clients or providing a guided tour on  the trail. For further information, please E-mail weiserrivertrail@gmail.com.
